How should I phrase my search?

If you're not sure how to express your search, our search engine can help you find what you're looking for:

  • The search engine can autocorrect some mis-spellings
  • It understands many synonyms, e.g. that "24hr" means the same as "24 hour"
  • Results are influenced by a thesaurus of product, brand and service terms. For example, if the user is looking for "attic conversions", we'll also look for businesses which match "loft conversions".

Performing "and/or company name" searches

I'm looking for a specific named company but cannot find it.

To find what you're looking for, try:

  1. Entering part of the name followed by *. For example, searching for dentons* will find Dentons Directories Ltd.
  2. Try amending your search using the drop-down menus at the top and bottom of the results page.
  3. You may be able to find the company by deleting the company name and entering their type of business in the "Search for" box. For example, a doctor may be entered under a practice name rather than his/her actual name.

I know the company I'm looking for but don't know where it is located.

Search for the company name and leave the "located in" box empty to search throughout the UK.

How does the company name search work?

We've developed dentonsweb.com to help you find what you're looking for even if you don't know the full company name, or if you've misspelled words or used abbreviated names.

dentonsweb.com now uses tools like phonetics (essentially a sound-alike spell check) to improve the effectiveness of your search. The site also knows the alternative names used to describe the same company and is able to find the company even when you're not exactly sure how to spell the name or only know part of the name.

What does "Related Classifications" mean?

When searching dentonweb.com will match your searched keyphrase to similar headings. For example, when searching for 'builders', matching classifications may include: brick and stonework contractors, handyman services, loft conversions etc. The related classification can be found on the left hand side of our search results page.

dentonsweb.com does not recognise the location I'm looking for.

To find what you're looking for please:

  1. Check the spelling.
  2. Try shortening your location to the first three letters for our database to suggest matching locations. For example, type in "Tro" and dentonsweb.com will display city, town or village names matching starting with "Tro". Each additional character entered will filter the suggestion further.
  3. If you are searching a full UK post code, try only the full outer part for a wider area search.
