Milborne Port is a village in Somerset, east of the town of Sherborne close to the Dorset border. The village is surrounded by green fields and countryside on the banks of the River Gascoigne – also known as the River Ivel or River Yeo. Milborne Port was once one of the most important towns in Somerset.
History

River Yeo, Milborne Port
- Although Milborne Port was neither a borough nor a shire town, it was important as a mint town in the Saxon period between 997AD and 1035AD.
- The village became a thriving glove and leather manufacturing area with the last factory closing in 1970.
- Ven House was built in 1700 and extended for James Medleycott in 1725. The property remained in the Medleycott family for over 250 years although some of the land was sold off previously.
