Cricklade town centre
Cricklade is a small town in north Wiltshire on the River Thames, situated midway between Swindon and Cirencester. Cricklade is the oldest Saxon town in Britain and is also the first town on the course of the River Thames. Cricklade is twinned with the town of Sucé-sur-Erdre in France.
History

- Cricklade was founded in the 9th century by the Anglo Saxons and its location was chosen for the fact that it is where the Roman road Ermin Street crosses the River Thames. Cricklade was also the home of a Saxon royal mint.
