Wroughton is located in the county of Wiltshire and it is sometimes claimed to be the largest village in the UK. It is twinned with the town of St-Germain-Les-Corbeil in Germany.
History

St john the Baptist and St Helen Church, Wroughton
- Evidence of a settlement in the area is available due to the extensive ritual complex at Avebury, 6 miles to the south. The older name for the village was Ellendune.
- The earliest archaeological evidence from within Wroughton dates from the Roman period and show intensive settlement and farming in the area.
- There are several thatched properies in the village that date from the 17th century. At this time there were seven mills along the river.
- Until the 19th century, Wroughton was a mere country village. More recently, it was home to RAF Wroughton which closed in the 1970s. Some of the redundant buildings are now used to store artefacts from The Science Museum (London).
- From 1855 to 1930 the annual week long Wroughton Festival took place, it was a summer fair attended by local farmers and Wiltshire residents.
